Just thought that I’d post a few pictures of our new apartment. It is still a mess and not much to look at, but it will be home for the next year! We have a place of our own! Yay!

If you’re curious, I got a job at a local boutique selling shoes. (My first full time job!) A box of tall UGG boots is what created the colorful shape on my arm. Impressed? I am.

Hi, sorry it’s been so long since I’ve updated. Frankly, there just hasn’t been a lot of stuff to post about. The only interesting events took place only recently – the preparation for which has been keeping me busy, anyway it’s a vicious cycle of boredom and ridiculously busy.

1. Don and I are moving back to Western Massachusetts. We made the decision for a couple of reasons: I cannot find a paying job here in Boston, the rent is too high for me to be able to save any money, Don found a great job in Amherst. He will be doing research on a National Science Foundation grant. It’s a fantastic opportunity that normally would have gone to a post-doctoral candidate.

2. Mom came to visit and I helped out at the most recent Shecky show. Mom was here for roughly a week even though the show itself was only 3 days long. She was nice enough buy/make us some home cooking (which I have dearly missed). In fact, she even went so far as to prepare two or three extra dishes that we can cook or reheat later. Am I a recent grad or what? On the same note, you can ask her for all the gorey details about how tiny, cramped, and hot our flat is. Needless to say, she is very happy that we are moving.

3. We managed to find an affordable apartment! We will finally have a place of our own! We found a relatively spacious (maybe by HK standards?) third floor, one bedroom apartment in Northampton which is very close to Hampshire. The kitchin could be a little larger, but I’m very happy with the open layout and balcony. And since it is in an apartment complex, we will have access to a pool and (after a quick walk outside the walls) the Connecticut river. (Unfortunately, I live in Massachusetts so I will only want to swim for another couple of weeks, but it’s nice nonetheless.) Not to mention I will have real closet for the first time in four years! YAY!! I’ll post pictures once we move in properly and the floor becomes visible again.

4. Don bought a car! We named it Fang. Fang is a 2003 Subaru Forester. He is going to help us move. Again.

PS – Somebody hug PauPau for me, please. Tell her I’m trying to get back into knitting. I’m terrible but no matter, I have a feeling that she will be amused either way. : ]

Internship!

YAY! I got a job – kind of. I’ve been accepted as a volunteer/intern position at the William Morris Hunt Library, one of the libraries connected to the Museum of Fine Arts here in Boston. So, obviously no money, but a great opportunity to learn more about how research in carried out and interact directly with curators. I’m very happy about it. I’m still sending out applications in hopes of finding a job that will allow me to pay my rent, but in the meantime I will be headed back down to New York in a few days to help Mom out with her booth at Shecky’s. Of course if you’re in the area, you should let one of us know and stop by!

The Joys of Unemployment

Nothing new to report, just a continued lack of income. It’s been a fun but frustrating summer so far. I finally have time to hang out with friends that I haven’t seen for a while and read fiction (it’s probably been over a year) which means I have too much time on my hands. Oh well. Doing what I can and trying to enjoy it.

By the way, what do you guys think of this mini gallery layout for the pictures? I haven’t used it before, but I wanted to give it a try.

Hi, all. Thanks to everyone for my birthday gifts and wishes, as always, a special double, triple, quadruple thanks goes out to my family in Hong Kong. I really appreciate it and miss you guys.

Don and I have officially left the Hampshire Bubble and have stepped foot into the real world. Kind of. We’ve moved into a nice little place in Cambridge (just outside of Central Square in Boston) and are still unpacking. I will do my best to post some photos once the place looks presentable. I’m really quite happy with it so far.

Anyway, mostly I just wanted to share some pictures from Commencement. Here they are:

Commencement: ETA 20 hours.

Hi, just thought I’d drop in a quick update. It’s been so busy and hectic, but things look manageable. Don and I have moved nearly all of our worldly possessions to Boston, leaving our rooms sad and empty. Mom and Dad arrive in roughly eight hours. The graduation ceremony starts tomorrow morning at about nine in the morning finishing at around one or two in the afternoon. Dress: check. Shoes: check. Fascinator: check. Jewelry: hm… we’ll see.

Every year at school has seemed to pass by even faster than the year before it and this year has been the fastest yet. For some reason I don’t expect this trend in perceived speed to change, which frightens me a bit, but seeing as there is absolutely nothing I can do about it, I’ll just do my best to roll with it.

I’ll make sure to post pictures of Commencement soon, but for now, here’s a picture of me popping champagne with my friends after we rang the bell (a school tradition to ring the very large, very loud bell outside of the library when you finish your senior thesis). Wish me luck walking in my heels!

Math is still not my strong point…

So, I thought that I’d been keeping a fairly accurate page count of my thesis, give or take a page. I was wrong. Off by twelve pages to be exact, which puts me at roughly 72 pages with a chapter left to write. When did this happen?

And for those of you that are interested, this is what I’m wearing for graduation. It came in last week and fits great! I just need to buy some wedges with money that I don’t have. Hurrrah!

I’m probably looking for something along these lines:

JOKING! Just joking. They aren’t even wedges… : ]

And they really must be wedges otherwise I’ll spend all of Commencement walking like a fat stork trying not to sink into the grass.

On a totally unrelated note: I finally gave in. After four years of being put off by the thought of a “wild west space opera”, I sat down and gave Firefly a chance (and by ‘sat down’, I mean I had a fever for two days during which I spent an aggregate 3 hours out of bed). I loved it! I even watched the movie. Twice.

Anyway, back to that grindstone.
